Car Community Loses a Long Time Icon

Chuck Bell

Long time car dealer and car enthusiast Chuck Bell passed away October 13th.  Chuck sold cars in the Portland area for over 60 years, and was co-owner of the original House of Hardtops.  He later owned H-H Auto Sales before retiring in 2021.

Chuck also was honored as one of the first inductees in the Portland Roadster Show in 1968, when he, Dave Stoner and Mike Thelin were honored for their 1929 Ford Tudor.  Over the years, he enjoyed owning and showing several hot rods.

I had the pleasure of not only knowing Chuck through the hot rod world, but by playing basketball with him at Cascade Athletic Club.  A fierce competitor, he loved playing hoops and was a pretty decent shot as well.

Chuck will be interred in a private ceremony at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver.  Family & friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life at AC Hotel Vancouver Waterfront at 333 West Columbia Way on November 15th from 1-4pm.  Onsite parking is limited.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Humane Society of Southwest WA, or a charity of your choice.

RIP Chuck, hope your driving hot rods and shooting jumpers up there.
